Funds Management: Pioneer Investments GiSP Programme

Background
Pioneer Investments were engaged in a multi-year programme called GiSP, to implement a new equities and fixed income trading platform for its asset management businesses. The goal of the programme was to create a single trading platform across Pioneer businesses worldwide, in order to provide best in class execution capabilities and to lower operating costs.

The Team
Pioneer mobilized a multi-disciplined programme team, drawn from its centres of excellence located around the globe and from its IT partners.

Pinnacle Role
Pinnacle provided Pioneer with an uplift to its internal project management capability, by assigning experienced project managers to manage key projects within the GiSP programme, and by implementing improvements to Pioneer’s project governance standards and processes.

The Work
The major elements of the Pinnacle assignment included:

An assessment of the project management processes in use on the GiSP programme
Recommendation and implementation of improvements to the project management processes
Planning and managing the delivery of critical IT projects, including application systems and IT infrastructure
Cross programme planning and coordination of multiple related projects
Assisting in the establishment of structures and processes for management of organisation change arising from the new IT systems and processes
Support for the operation of the GiSP Project Management Office

The Results
The following results were achieved:

Improved project planning, execution and risk management significantly increased the number of on time deliveries achieved by the programme.
Coordination of activities between project teams located in different centres around the globe was greatly improved, contributing to more effective use of resources and more on time deliveries.
